Fly fishing guide wales
Fly Fishing Guide, lessons and tuition on Rivers Wye and Usk
We offer guided fly fishing trips, lessons and tuition on the rivers of Mid-Wales. Whether you are a seasoned angler looking for some local knowledge, or a complete beginner at the start of their fly fishing journey. We are able to put a package together to cater to all fly fishing abilities.
Our main focus of the day will be to guide you to catching fish. This means we will fish to the conditions and select a method which is most likely to work on the day. While I can’t guarantee fish, I can offer a friendly professional service, local knowledge, and to coach you through each pool using proven river fly fishing techniques.
River fishing can be confusing in the beginning, there are so many techniques and a wide range of flies to choose from. Thankfully, it does get easier with time and like most things in life there is a learning curve to it. By booking a guide you will be saving yourself time, being shown how, always beats trial and error.
Being based in Mid-Wales, we are perfectly situated to offer guiding on the Rivers Wye, Usk and tributaries within the catchment areas. Both the Wye and Usk have fantastic fly fishing for wild Brown Trout. The River Wye also holds a large head of Grayling which offers great sport throughout the year.
Many of the smaller tributary rivers such as my local river Edw hold prolific heads of fish, offer great sport on light tackle and a unique challenge for a fly angler. Fishing a small river takes a slightly different approach which is fully engrossing. You need to approach the river with stealth and have lightning fast reactions for when that small stream specimen trout snatches your fly. Small stream fly fishing isn’t always easy, but when you do it right you can be rewarded with 20 plus fish in a day. If you fancy a day fishing for wild trout in wild places then do not hesitate to get in touch.

I’ve gone fishing in New Zealand with a one-way ticket. I’m unsure of when I will return, so I will not be taking bookings at this time.

I was a beginner but on the second day I caught the best big brown trout I have ever caught! If you want to fly fish in the UK, James is the way to go.
